While generally effective, there were instances when the vortex meters yielded inconsistent data. They needed flow measurement devices that could give consistent, precise measurements to meet their stringent requirements and decided to test McCrometers recently introduced Wafer V-Cone flowmeter. The Wafer V-Cone offers an advanced differential pressure flow technology, like the standard V-Cone® flowmeter, but at a lower installed cost. The cone is contained in a short meter section that bolts between two flanges. This unique design allows the cone to be easily removed or replaced to accommodate changing flow conditions without replacing the whole meter. Additionally, the Wafer V-Cone can be manufactured from a broad range of materials, including metals and plastics. It provides accuracy of up to +/-0.5 percent of rate, +/-0.1 percent repeatability, with flow range of 10:1 or greater. It also acts as its own flow conditioner. Installation piping requirements are typically 0 to 3 diameters upstream and 0 to 1 diameters downstream of the cone. Aera Energies replaced the vortex meters with the Wafer V-Cones and accuracy improved to 95 percent almost immediately. The net result was better control of production costs. Pleased with the outcome, Aera decided to outfit 140 cells with the Wafer V-Cone. Each cell must be outfitted with eight steam injection manifolds and each manifold requires three Wafer-Cones. It is projected by the end of 2003, over 280 Wafer V-Cones will be part of the Aera Energy Producing Company, contributing to substantial cost savings and increased profitability. |
