McCrometer's FPI Mag - Next Generation Mag Meter

Simple Installation:
The FPI Mag™ manufactured by McCrometer, is an electromagnetic flow meter designed to meet the challenging needs of municipal and industrial facilities which require a mag meter to measure water flow in closed pipes. The unique design of the FPI Mag meter allows for quick, simple installation across a wide range of applications: it was engineered specifically for facilities that need to install a meter without shutting down the water line, or for facilities installing new pipes and looking to mitigate the high cost of installing a full-pipe meter.

CSA, UL, ISO Certifications and Approvals:
McCrometer CSA Certification   Listed by CSA to 61010-1: Certified by CSA to UL 61010-1 and CSA C22.2  No. 61010-1-04
McCromter Ultra Mag ISO Certification   ISO 9001:2008 certified quality management system

Lower Costs: The FPI Mag is the only meter of its kind that eliminates the need for heavy equipment and excessive manpower necessary to support installation. Facilities save up to 45% on installation and total cost of ownership.

Unmatched Accuracy: The unique streamlined water flow sensor features multiple electrode pairs along the outside of the sensor. The electrodes are positioned so each pair measures a cross-sectional area. This multi-electrode sensing provides full profile accuracy rivaling a full-bore mag. The sensor's body is also hermetically sealed and protected by NSF certified 3M fusion-bonded epoxy coating making this an ideal mag meter for drinking water.

Versatile and Robust: The FPI Mag is extremely versatile, allowing for hot tap Installation when needed, and is today's mag meter of choice for capital or maintenance projects, retrofits and sites never metered before. Its robust construction means there are no moving parts and nothing to wear or break, and its minimal straight line requirements allow use of the FPI Mag in piping configurations where space is tight and bends or elbows are close.

Reverse Flow: In some systems there is a need to measure reverse flow or bi-directional flow (forward and reverse totalized flow). No matter whether you are measuring forward, reverse or bi-directional water flow, choosing the flow meter best suited for the application will result in improved accuracy, repeatability, lower maintenance costs and will promote a long life for the flow meter.

Simple Installation

The insertion design of the FPI Mag, manufactured by McCrometer, Inc., allows for easy installation across a wide range of applications and pipe sizes. Hot Tap installation allows you to insert the meter without interrupting service, de-watering lines, cutting pipe or welding flanges.

Lower Costs

Customers save 45%+ on installation and the total cost of ownership. The FPI Mag eliminates the need for heavy equipment and manpower necessary to support installation.

Unmatched Accuracy

The FPI Mag's multi-electrode design and unique operating principle delivers accuracy unmatched by other insertion meters and rivals the performance of full-bore mag meters.

Robust Construction

With no moving parts, there is nothing to wear or break. The sensor body is made from heavy-duty 316 stainless steel for maximum structural integrity. The sensor body is hermetically sealed and protected by NSF certified 3M fusion-bonded epoxy coating.

Versatile

The FPI Mag is ideal for capital or maintenance projects, retrofits and sites never before metered. The unique combination of accuracy, ease of installation and total cost savings make the FPI magmeter the perfect choice for a wide range of Municipal and Industrial Applications.

Municipal water and wastewater treatment systems present a challenging environment in which the accurate and reliable measurement of liquid flow is essential for cost-effective plant operation. In order for these systems to run as economically as possible, water and wastewater treatment facilities need a Municipal Flow Meter with accurate flow measurement necessary to ensure that limited water resources and treated wastewater effluent are processed efficiently.

The FPI Mag water flow sensor supports the following water and wastewater treatment water flow applications:

Water

• Distribution

• Effluent

• UV Dosing

• Filter Balancing and Backwash

• Wells & Booster Stations

Wastewater

• Effluent

• Recycle / Reclaim

The FPI Mag is suitable for a variety of industrial facilities as a chilled water flow meter or cooling water flowmeter, ideal for measuring water flow rate. The FPI Mag digital water flow meter is the preferred affordable flow meter type for Power plants (including cogeneration), paper mills, chemical & petrochemical plants, metals & mining and food & beverage:

Applications Include:

• Cooling Water

• Fire Water

• Feed Water

• Chilled Water

• Raw Water

• Inlet to Surge Basin

• Effluent Wastewater

• Heated Water

Focus on Flow measurement:

Today's chemical and hydrocarbon processors face numerous environmental and competitive pressures. As a result, selecting the right flow measurement tool for the job is more important than ever to ensure environmental compliance, track precious resources, and minimize operating and maintenance costs.

The FPI Mag is ideal for chilled water in campus style facilities such as:

  • Hospitals
  • Airports
  • Hotels
  • Casinos
  • Universities
  • Corporate Offices
  • Correctional Facilities
  • Government Complexes

Standard liquid flow measurements are made with meters at multiple points as water is pumped and moves forward from groundwater or other sources, through canals or pipelines, onto treatment facilities, into storage tanks and back out into distribution systems for consumptions.

The FPI Mag operates based on Faraday's Law of Electromagnetic Induction: When water (a conductor) moves through a magnetic field, it produces a voltage that is directly proportional to the velocity of the conductor.

How it Works ...

  • Electromagnetic coils installed inside the entire length of the sensor produce magnetic fields
  • Stainless steel electrode pairs installed on the outside of the entire sensor length collect the induced voltage caused by the folowing water
  • The total voltage signal is then transmitted to the converter electronics where it is converted to an average flow velocity
  • The converter then multiplies this average flow velocity by the pipe's cross-sectional area to create a volumetric flow rate
FPI Mag Principle of Operation

The FPI Mag has no moving parts and a single-piece design. The Multi-electrode water flow sensor contains nothing to wear or break and is generally immune to clogging by sand, grit or other debris. The FPI Mag is available with forward-flow only or bi-directional measurement for line sizes from 4 to 138 inches and the system now includes a brass full port ball valve with stainless steel nipple, the quick connect cable fitting, our new M-Series converter and wrenches necessary for installation.

The FPI Mag flow meter is a versatile Insertion Mag Meter which is an affordable alternative to full-bore meters and ultrasonic flow meters. This unique, patented hot tap flow meter is an excellent choice when your project needs any one or more of the following:

  • Hot Tap Flow Meter
