Propeller Flow Meters

Classic Propeller Flow Meters Trusted by Irrigators and Growers Since 1955

Whatever the need, McCrometer propeller flow meters offer unbeatable value in cost of installation and ownership and set the standard for ease-of-use, reliability, and economy. Our leading-edge meters have offered versatile water flow measurement for more than 65 years.

Propeller flow meters are a favored technology due to their mechanical design, easy DIY maintenance, and economical price tag. When maintained and cared for according to manufacturer’s specifications, the propeller flow meter offers a 20+ year lifespan with minimal change in accuracy over the years.

Combined with straightening vanes or flow straightener products, the propeller flow meter’s straight-run requirements are cut in half, benefitting users with tight spaces, limited pipeline, or retrofit installations. The propeller flow meter with flow straightener generates optimum flow profiles to produce reliable, repeatable flow measurements for the life of the measurement device.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does a propeller meter work?

Fluid flowing through a pipe turns a propeller. Those turns, or revolutions, equate to flow rate and volume over time. The speed of the propeller revolutions correlated with the inside diameter of the pipe, calculate flow rate and totalization. Totalization and flow rate are indicated on a meter’s register.

What are popular applications for propeller meters?

Propeller meters are often used in agriculture and turf applications as well as municipal water but can also be found in certain industrial applications as well.

How many types of propeller meters does McCrometer offer?

McCrometer offers two brands of propeller meters, the McPropeller and the Water Specialties flow meters. Both meters offer many configurations including saddle-style, top-plate, tube-style, reverse flow, and more.
